Anti-gay in Nevada

Many states have passed the prohibition of Anti-gay harassment and discrimination law in schools which protects children from the discrimination against their beliefs. These states include California, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, and Wisconsin. D.C is also included within these, they all prohibit the harassment based on a child's sexual orientation.

Nevada is where I have lived my whole life, and it was not until this year did I realize how unfair we truly are. Now do not get me wrong we are a state with many opportunities but why aren't we one of those states that are protecting kids from this cruel thing. When I was a junior I heard a horrible story about a boy getting beat up by boys his age. They based there anger upon what he liked, now does this sound fair? In our constitution the very first Amendment states freedom of speech. The key word is freedom, these Amendment’s were written to prevent things such as this. Why nine states, why not 50?

As I got more and more information on this, I wanted to ask a few friends what they thought about this and if they thought that Nevada not passing the law was unfair? “I think its whacked, it leaves those who are gay feel like they are nothing.” A close friend had answered.

I believe that if people in Nevada and maybe just in my county (Washoe) we can change this, especially being teenagers we have the chance to speak out and make a difference. To many people this difference won't mean a thing but to most it can allow them to feel safe when the head for school in the morning. If you do not like someone because of their sexual orientation, then simply ignore them. Violence is not the answer and it will never be a solution to such problems. So please help myself and many others try to pass this law in our state. This is a growing problem with nothing being done.
